Who We Are

The homeless day resource center is a public – private partnership working to provide community solutions to help homeless men, women, and children in Dane County, Wisconsin

In 2016 Dane County purchased the building that previously housed the Madison Chamber of Commerce with plans to renovate it and turn it into a day resource center for the homeless.

Dane County chose Catholic Charities to run this multi-service day resource center and partnered with the City of Madison and the United Way. Together, with support from local community agencies who serve the homeless, we form a unique collaboration between the business, faith, government, nonprofit, and neighborhood sectors.

Judith Metzger
Center Director

“The day resource center for the homeless is forging new territory through our commitment to excellence in delivering widespread services to individuals and families in need.”

John Adams
Reception Coordinator

“Helping people with their basic needs is crucial to all of us. And getting to know the guests is a special connection for me to be allowed to make, while also supporting an upward mobility in their lives.”

Kaitlin Kyle
Guest Services Specialist

“Guiding guests to the appropriate agencies no matter the issue, from mental health to alcohol and drug use is an important step. I’m honored to help the community where I grew up after working on similar issues nationally.”

Tami Fleming
Volunteer Coordinator

“Just being able to get a shower or wash your clothes are big things,” Fleming said. “The ability to go to appointments without having to ride the bus all day. To eat and have your basic needs fulfilled. Those are things that make the time spent being homeless a lot shorter.”

Our Mission

The homeless day resource center is committed to providing services that address the causes of homelessness in an environment that allows people to feel warm, welcome, safe, and respected.

Our guests have access to resources and professional staff to assist them with housing, employment, mental health and substance abuse counseling; as well as services that help restore their dignity such as showers and laundry facilities.
We have secure, separate day rooms for single adults and families with children.

The Beacon will open in the fall of 2017 at:
